Bayside United into the Third Round

Bayside United continued into the third round of the Cup with a 3-0 win over Kangaroo Point Rovers in the Canale Cup on Saturday.  In the first of two meetings in two weeks against KPR, Bayside got the psychological edge over their rivals with what proved to be a comfortable victory.

A good start saw Bayside dominate the early period with plenty of pressure being applied to a shaky KPR defence.  Youngster Dean Morrice began brightly in his first start for the season, and his pace out wide caused KPR plenty of problems early on.  The midfield trio of Captain Lee Morrice, Blair McLean and Graham Horgan were dominating the middle of the park and plenty of chances were being created.  The first goal came in the 12th minute with some offensive pressure forcing a corner and Stef Juaszek headed the set piece home from close range after good delivery from Ben Webb.  Continued pressure saw Bayside come close on numerous occasions and United were unlucky to have a further goal disallowed by the referee for a push.

It took until late in the first half for the second goal to come, and once again it was a corner from Ben Webb and a header from Stef Juraszek that made it 2-0.  KPR were on the back foot now and some excellent work out wide and a dangerous ball from Dean Morrice just minutes later saw the KPR defence put the ball into their own net to make it 3-0 right on the stroke of half time.

Bayside took their foot off the pedal to some degree in the second half, however they were still able to dominate possession and force the Kangaroo Point goalkeeper into a number of excellent saves.  Substitute Mo Gamble in particular tested the keeper on a numerous occasions and was unlucky not to bag a goal or two.

In the early match Bayside Reserves beat KPR 2-1 with goals from Dan Khoury and Ryan Patten.

Next week sees Bayside once again travelling to Kangaroo Point for the first League match of the season.

Bayside United Victory

Bayside United began the 2010 season with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Division Two rivals Oxley in the first round of the Canale Cup at home on Saturday night.  There were debuts for new signings Nic Dezenzo, Graham Horgan, Mo Gamble, Peter Gatt and Blair McLean whilst newcomers Pablo Palaez, Dan Khoury and Ryan Patten were also on the bench in a new look Bayside outfit.  21 Year old Lee Morrice was named  club Captain prior to the match.

Bayside began the match well, controlling possession and passing the ball with confidence, however chances were hard to come by as Oxley defended resolutely.  Eventually the dominance in possession told though as some excellent skill and a pinpoint cross out wide from Peter Gatt found midfielder Jack Davison who made it 1-0 with a tap in from 5 yards.  Bayside continued to dominate the match however they were unable to add more goals and went in at half time with a slender 1 goal lead.

The second half saw Oxley come out looking sharper and some free kicks in dangerous position put the Bayside defence under pressure for the first time in the match, however goalkeeper Cameron Davey dealt comfortably with anything that came his way and slowly Bayside once again started to get on top.  A substitution on 65 minutes seemed to give Bayside some impetus as Pablo Palaez entered the fray for his first Bayside appearance and shortly afterwards he made the score line more comfortable with a clinical finish after some good counter attacking play from Ben Webb and Peter Gatt.

Daniel Khoury and Ryan Patten also came on as substitutions and made good contributions with Patten setting up Palaez for his second of the evening to make it 3-0 and Khoury unlucky not to get on the scoresheet as well with a rasping 30 yarder that hit the crossbar.  A good first up performance from Bayside which will see them continue into the second round of the Canale Cup this weekend against Kangaroo Point Rovers.  Bayside United’s Reserve side beat Oxley 5-0 in the early match.

Senior Pre Season

A reminder that we’ll begin training in December on Wednesday the 2nd and train once a week for 3 weeks before a break and then get into a proper pre Season on Tuesday Jan 5th with a 7pm start.

Matches will begin straight away in January as it is an earlier start to the season this year, so it’ll be important that everyone intending on playing this season gets down to the first session. The club will be running a Pre Season tournament over 3 weeks for Firsts and Reserves in Jan/Feb. So far we have Annerley and Taringa playing and we’ll find a 3rd interested club asap.

Pre Season Matches organised so far are:
Jan 9th – v Pine Hills (h)
Jan 16th – Rochdale (a)
Jan 23rd - ????
Jan 30th – Pre Season Cup (h)
Feb 6th – Pre Season Cup (h)
Feb 13th – Pre Season Cup (h)
Feb 20th - ????

I believe that there will be a Cup game against another Div 2 side the week before the season starts this year. I’m just waiting to find out if that is the 20th or 27th of Feb. Make sure you keep all the above dates free!

In other news, we’ve managed to sign up Steve Towers as the teams Manager for next season. Most of you know Steve already, and he’ll be a great help to myself and you guys throughout the season. We’ve also signed up Mo Gamble from Kangaroo Point. He’s a top quality player and will fit in very well. Hopefully over the next few weeks a few more players will be added to beef up the squad numbers.

All in all, things are coming together nicely for next season, we just need to make sure you all get yourselves down there as early as possible so that we are fit enough to give this league a shake.
